Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact [2011]

Con el lanzamiento de su nuevo disco Eyes Contact, Gang Gang Dance llevan su sonido en una dirección completamente distinta a la que nos tienen acostumbrados,  pero que los lleva a un nuevo nivel en la calidad de su sonido.

Si bien con el tiempo su sonido se ha vuelto más accesible,  e incluso nos recuerdan a M.I.A o a Little Dragon en este nuevo material, lo sobresaliente es que constantemente se reinventan sin caer en complacencias, prueba de ellos es la osadía de seleccionar Glass Jar como primer sencillo con sus épicos 11 minutos de duración.

Seguramente Eye Contact será su disco mas mainstream hasta el momento, pero también es el que toma los mejores elementos de sus trabajos anteriores y los envuelve en un paquete bastante irresistible que una vez que comienzas, no podrás dejar de escuchar.

Ed Banger – The Bee Sides 5×7″ #RSD [2011]

Como parte del Record Store Day celebrado en Inglaterra el sábado pasado, Ed Banger Records lanzo un boxset de colección llamado “The Bee Sides” el cual incluye 5 tracks inéditos de 5 de los más grandes nombres el Electro Frances: Justice, SebastiAn, Breakbot, Carte Blanche and Busy P.

Villagers / Charlotte Gainsbourg – Set The Tigers Free / Memoir #RSD [2011]

Conor O’ Brien aka Villagers was asked by Charlotte Gainsbourg last autumn to write her a song. Conor obliged and wrote ‘Memoir’ during a U.S. tour. It was recorded a week later by the duo together in Paris. It will get a 7″ release backed by ‘Set The Tigers Free’ (withartwork by Conor) on Saturday for Record Store Day.

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals – Class Mythology EP [2011] #RSD

Limited-edition gatefold double 7” (one yellow, one orange) featuring 4 unreleased outtakes from the “Cardinology” era. Cover collages done by Ryan Adams with never-before-seen photos on the inner-gatefold and a 7”x7” ‘mini-poster’ and Cardinals sticker inserted in each package.

Radiohead – Supercolliders/The Butcher 12″ [2011] #RSD

 

“Supercollider,” a piano-based tune that the band had previewed in concert back in 2008, has been stretched out into a nearly seven-minute atmospheric ballad. “The Butcher,” a previously unknown track, is an eerie number anchored by a busy tribal drum pattern and what sounds like an unsteady electronic bass pulse. According to guitarist Ed O’Brien, these songs are the only outtakes from the sessions for the band’s latest album The King of Limbs.

Guillemots – Walk The River [2011]

Después de una pausa durante la cual el vocalista Fyfe Dangerfield aprovecho para lanzar su debut como solista Fly Yellow Moon en 2010 (disco demasiado recomendable), Guillemots están de regreso con su tercer álbum Walk The River producido por David Kosten (Bat for Lashes, Everything Everything).

Guillemots utiliza en su música, múltiples influencias que van desde el rock, folk, pop e incluso Jazz, lo que les ha ganado un lugar importante en UK. 

Acerca de este nuevo disco, Fyfe Dangerfield comenta: “Las canciones tenían que sonar como si se escucharan a través del cielo nocturno, pero también como si necesitaran sobrevivir en un piano o la guitarra acústica. Todavía tiene una crudeza e inmediatez que se mueve sin depender de los arreglos. Así que intentamos alcanzar un equilibrio entre nitidez y borrosidad. Queríamos hacer un disco que te rodee por completo a medida que lo escuchas”.

Jamie Woon – Mirrorwriting [2011]

Algunos datos que deben saber de Jamie Woon:

• La BBC coloco a Jamie Woon en la cuarta posición de su lista ‘Sounds of 2011’.
• Pitchfork describió al track ‘Night Air’ (co-producido por Burial) como uno de los ‘key-track’ del 2010

El cantante, compositor y productor británico de 28 años Jamie Woon ha estado en boca los críticos y melómanos que por igual han estado esperando el lanzamiento de Mirrorwriting, disco en el que toma elementos del R&B, Soul, Electronica y Dubstep, mezclando exuberantes percusiones, bajos sucios y sexys y gloriosas excursiones de vocales y armonías cíclicas. Las vocales se sumergen en la oscuridad de las letras para lograr melodías bastante elaboradas y con bastante clase.

Con Mirrorwriting, Woon logra un disco en el que el R&B, Soul, Folk, Dubstep y Electronica se funden para crear una colección de melodías clásicas y atemporales y profundamente irresistibles.

Diego Garcia - Laura [2011]

 

Conocido por ser el vocalista y compositor de la banda neoyorquina de Elefant, Diego Garcia lanza su álbum debut como solista titulado Laura.

De ascendencia argentina y norteamericana, Diego decide dejar de lado el Post-Punk que caracteriza a Elefant, para construir un disco intensamente melancólico y personal, tomando prestados elementos de la música de Morrisey e incluso de Leonard Cohen.

Como un filme que comienza al final de la historia, Laura abre con “Inside My Heart” canción con influencia western que se siente tan desolada como un rompimiento. El resto del disco ofrece postales de cómo es que el personaje termino en ese estado tan doloroso. Garcia tiene el talento para capturar el estado emocional que afecta a cada capítulo de la historia: el triste pero al mismo tiempo liberador momento cuando entiendes porque la relación se está desmoronando ("You Were Never There"), el último y desesperado intento por salvar la situación ("Under This Spell”) y la mezcla de sentimientos de tristeza y libertad al alejarse de la zona de desastre ("Nothing To Hide”), hasta llegar al final de la experiencia, al momento esperanzador con el ultimo track "All Eyes On You”.

Laura es el equivalente a un filme dramático con un final feliz, esperamos en un futuro poder escuchar la secuela.
